Car: A3 Golf / GTI (Possibly the A3 Jetta as well)
Time Required: 15 minutes.
Tools Needed: Phillips screwdriver and one small flathead
screwdriver for prying-out a relay.
After hearing so much about the 'Euro-switch,' I was led to believe
that the only way you could eliminate your daytime running lights (a.k.a.
DRL's) was to buy this relatively expensive switch and install two
jumper wires... not so! Thanks to Mike Potter from Virtual World Parts
(www.parts4vws.com), I was able
to disable my DRL's for free.
- You will have to access your fuse box by removing the protective
cover from the bottom of your dashboard. It is secured by a couple
of Phillips screws and a plastic clip (removing it should be fairly
obvious.)
- Once the cover is removed, you will have to 'unclip' your fuse
block. There is a white locking clip that you must pulled forward
(toward yourself) to release the fuse block from it's bracket. There
is a clip on both the right and left side of the fuse block... they
literally swing out of the way once released.
- Push the fuse block up and then slide it towards you to remove
it from it's bracket.
- Locate relay #94 or #173 in location #15... the relay number will
vary depending on the year of your car. Use the small screwdriver
to pry the relay out.
- You done! Just reverse the steps to put the fuse block back into
the dashboard.
