Eliminate Over-Spray... The Scary Way!

Required Tools: For light over-spray - Meguiar's Clay Magic or Mother's California Gold. For heavy over-spray: paste wax and a razor blade.

Cost: Most clay-bars seem to cost between $10 to $15 dollars and may require the purchase of a "spray-on detailer" for an additional $10.

The Problem:

Have you ever had body work done to your car, only to find the paint on a different side of your car feels like sand paper? Chances are, you're body shop didn't mask the car well enough to eliminate the over-spray effectively. If you are aware of the problem early enough, you may be able to remove a light dusting of over-spray with a product like Meguiar's Clay Magic or Mother's California Gold Clay Bar. Both products are becoming readily available at most bigger auto parts stores like Big Wheel Rossi. If the over-spray is not discovered early enough, you may have to use more drastic measures! This is how one of the Corrado List's members solved his problem:

Instructions:

Actually, what I have done - as scary as it sounds, is use a good paste wax and a razor blade. Put a little bit of wax on the windshield and scrape it off with the razor. Make sure you remember which side of the blade is up. Scraping the wax off the windshield insures that you don't have any points that will scrape the paint. Then you work over a small section at a time. Apply the wax per the manufacturer's instructions then scrape it off with the razor. Then wipe the area with a clean, soft rag. Not only will this take off the over-spray, it will give you a heck of a wax job. This is not for the faint of heart or the nervous, though. Use this technique at your own risk, I'm not responsible for any damage, blah, blah blah.
